After a much talked about US/Canadian takeover, Bologna is finally seeing some real success on the football field. The Rossoblu are in fantastic form in Serie B, having embarked on an eight-game unbeaten run in which they have accumulated 20 of a possible 24 points to surge into second place in the standings.
Although, just when it seemed the club were digging themselves out of a dark pit following relegation from Serie A last year, they were docked a point due to a slight financial mishap – allegedly caused by a past administration oversight, ahem. Talk about the ghost of Xmas football’s past coming back to haunt them!
However, coach Diego Lopez is remaining upbeat, saying, “We are in Serie B right now, but we are doing well and in the group of teams fighting for promotion. We went through a difficult time but it is behind us and now we’re fine.”
Holding onto an automatic promotion place will not be easy but given Bologna’s recent results, the cynics who dismissed the sale of the club as typical American hype will be well and truly silenced if the Rossoblu secure a return to Italy’s top flight this summer.
