Although the work is almost completed the testing phase will last for months with the first passenger shuttle due to begin in March 2019
The first shuttle will carry 50 people and automatically arrive at its destination. It will cover the five kilometres from Marconi to the station in 7.30 minutes with tickets costing 8.50 euro. The expected frequency is six trips per hour in each direction of travel.
“To support the work financially,” explains president of Marconi Express Rita Finzi, “the project needs a million travellers a year, then according to estimates we will grow up to a maximum of one million 600 thousand passengers.”
Completed construction which includes the stretch between Lazzaretto-Marconi airport has reached 88%. But the first shuttle travel will not take place until March 2019.
“We have almost hit 90% of production but we still have about a year of work ahead,” explains Finzi, “now ,we have to carry out the complex safety test program.” The pre-exercise phase will start, therefore, in autumn and will end next spring when the first passengers can board.
