Bolognese athletes Aleksandra Cotti and Sara Sgarzi did the city proud by competing at Rio in water polo and synchronized swimming.
It was Cotti, 28, though that stole the limelight by winning a silver medal with her team mates against the USA. Over joyed at the whole event, she said of the win: “This medal is for San Giovanni (her home town). And thanks to everyone who supported us. It helped us a lot.”
In the synchronized swimming, Sgarzi, 30, from Casalecchio made history by becoming the first Bolognese athlete in her chosen sport to reach such a high level. Overall, the team came fifth. “It was the crowning moment of my dream,” she commented after the game. She added some what optimistically, “With a little luck, may be we’ll get there some day.”
